Sometimes Joey's sometimes Chloe
Lyrics.
Verse 1:
By the Way he strolls he’d sway, here and there
not-a-one could tell for sure which way he goes
Through every road he toes, we stay and persevere;
our love for him is more than you would know,
It’s like at times, he’d stay to the right hand
side and in these times as a man he’s bona-fide.
Then on a dime, he’d stray to the left hand side
and in these times he’s fair as a blushing bride
Chorus:
Sometimes Joey’s sometimes Chloe thinks he’s a
little bit of this and a little bit of that
Sometimes maybe he’s sometimes crazy joey, living
by loving with no string attachment
Living and loving with nothing to spare
Verse 2:
Barreling down the middle of a two way street
tossing out the rules of the Highway Code
For him a thrill that seems a treat, but is he
doing any thinking ‘bout the perils of the road,
and though we
Try (we try) stir him to the right,
it never flies, he’s never ours to right.
Arrgh sure we
Pry, we pry to gain insight he’s much too shy,
too shy of the glaring light
Chorus:
Solo... You see,
Bridge:
Peaceful loving and kind that’s what Joey is, he’s
one you could not hate if you tried. About
Those who judge and condemn him that’s what this
is, a humble heart they’ll know should they be tried.
Well, let him be is the thing we got to do, to go his way
like everybody else, to
Work it out and find out the how-to-do, only he
can and nobody else
Chorus:
Outro:
Well, living and loving with no string attachment, living
and loving with nothing to spare
Well, living and loving with no string attachment, living
and loving with nothing to spare
Sometimes Joey's Sometimes Chloe:
Backstory.
This song came about as a result of a story I saw
On television, of a transgender female who was
Murdered because of her sexual orientation.
The story disturbed me so, that I continued to be
Troubled about it for weeks later. I wondered what
Kind of person would murder someone, based on
His opinion of the person's way of life,
Especially when they hurt no-one.
I pondered if the killer understood that per his
Action, It would be alright for anyone who
Disapproved of any of his life choices, to just go
ahead and murder him. Is this the kind of world he'd like?
I was saddened by this lack of understanding and tolerance,
As I continued to be sad for weeks and would bring it
Up again and again in conversation, a girlfriend at the
Time told me to snap out of it and get myself together.
She said "You call yourself a songwriter, why don't you
Write a song about it and heal the world with your pain?"
A light bulb was turned on in my head and I said "wow, that's
A great idea, why didn't I think of that?" she answered "well,
I'm smarter than you. And please, you don't have to let
Anyone know that".
I assured her I wouldn't and set about the task of defining
My take away from the story, which I found to be that people
Can't go around killing people they don't approve of. If that was
The rule, none of us will be left standing. It doesn't matter how
"Hot" you think you are, somebody, somewhere hates your guts.
And that, really, should be okay, as long as they keep it simply
As their opinion of you, nothing more.
One's life is a contract between one and one's maker
And it is only one's to live, mistakes, great judgements and all,
On one's road to perfection.
I wanted to tell the victim's story from the point of view of
Her family and friends who knew and loved her in spite of the
Fact that some of them might not have approved of her life choices.
They loved her anyway, knowing she hurt no-one and was as good
Person as you would ever find. (Read the lyrics of the song's
"Bridge").
I could not rhyme the victim's name successfuly in the song's
Rhyme scheme. But I did well rhyming Joey (for a guy's name)
And Chloe (for a girl's) name. So, I went with that.
