Bio:  Izmskzm playing a guitar, Seated. Topanga sessions.

Izmskzm is a Los Angeles based music artist who while having being a singer from early life, only recently began the development of a catalogue of original music that continues to date. His music is a fine blend of Rootsy Folk-Pop, Rock music, with a good dose of Reggae music, which he brands as Roots, Rock, Reggae.

His song catalogue has yielded gems like the powerful and thought provoking “Penny for Your Soul”, which calls out the fact that we too often and many times happily settle for less than our true worth in the various areas of our lives. There is also the irresistible, catchy and sing along friendly  “Sometimes Joey’s Sometimes Chloe”.  A song that encourages tolerance and respect for other’s life choices, so that all our choices may be met with tolerance and respect.

Nigerian born and a graduate of the University of Lagos, Nigeria. His search of purpose brought him to the United States. After attending musicians institute in Hollywood California, his foray into music making was born of what he saw as a social responsibility. A desire and duty to create good positively nourishing music, the kind he did not hear from anyone, anywhere.

He has since been creating uplifting socially and spiritually conscious music, along with ear catching melodies with infectious energy both as a solo performer with acoustic guitar and with a group of back up musicians. To date, he has performed to the delight of audiences in venues across the Los Angeles music landscape.

Incomparable to any, Izmskzm brings a refreshing stamp of originality to his brand of entertainment. His presence is charmingly engaging, his voice delightfully agile while being rich in character and his music is sure to engage, excite and challenge you in pleasant ways. He surely is a head ahead of the pack in his game and his act is a must see. He is currently working on recording and releasing new original music from his still expanding catalogue.

About You generic image1 - signifying 'you' the reader.

Do you desire a break from music and performances you find to be less than they could be in originality, content and passion? Or perhaps from artists who spend the lion's share of effort in developing all other areas of their artistry and brand and much less effort in the development of musicianship and performance chops strong enough to engage and entertain you thoroughly and meaningfully?

You're in the right place:

About You and I generic image2 - signifying 'you' the reader.Izmskzm picture at Finn's.

It is said that "Music is the language of the soul".  As people we share music as our common heritage. No matter who you are or where you live, in all likelihood you have been touched personally either by instrumental music or music in one language or the other.

Why listen to music?
 Peace Sign.

For one thing, to heal - by uniting the Trinity of Mind, Body and Spirit. We interpret musical vibration in our minds and/or simulate it bodily through some type of movement or dance and experience the spiritually cleansing power of this age old phenomenon of sound vibration, in time.

In addition, we seek newly articulated and/or re-affirmed truths in the poetry and stories of storytellers (artists) to accompany, fortify and guide us in our daily living.

About Me Izmskzm picture at Finn's.

Identity

Nigerian born and the youngest of six siblings, it was difficult to find my place and calling but a task I was nonetheless eager to undertake. Intrigued by music and its power, I soaked up locally made music and all that came from abroad.

The music one listens to on the aggregate, typically leans one either towards the spiritual or the material. I was very much nourished by the former and as such, this type of music had sown a seed within me without my being actively conscious of it.

Dissatisfaction
 generic image1 - signifying 'dis-satisfaction'.

My search for self brought me to the United States, where I found and continue to find very little new music being made, the sort of which is strong in its originality, passion, and uplifting characteristic. Of course, at the same time being as entertaining and non intrusive as I know they could be.

There are some of course but certainly not enough, to my liking. I found this to be the case whether it be in Reggae, Rock, R&B or just about any other genre.

Far too much music appeal to our lower angels, not our higher ones. To be sure, frivolity has its place. However I am one who thinks we would be well served to know its place and engage it perhaps only to a "healthy" degree and not wallow in it as our default "state of being". Finding a way to make this happen, was what I interested in exploring.

Along the way I discovered many people feel this way as well and they hunger for a return to positivity, consciousness and raw musicianship in music. Frivolity and all the other stuff being put in proper perspective and use, making them even more potent and fun when employed.

Decision to bridge gap
generic image of lit lightbulb - signifying 'an Aha moment'.

There then came point when I asked myself  “Why not self address your dissatisfaction. If you don't hear what you desire, why not create it? Bless your audience with the work, and give thanks for the opportunity. If not you, who? If not now, when?” The artist within was brewing, seeking expression through song.

My mission thenceforth became to support my audience through word and sound in a healing, non-judgmental, deeply soul searching and entertaining way. In addition, offer affirmations of positivity and love to lighten yoke, fortify and guide along the way in the here and now.

I picked up the guitar as my primary instrument. Self-taught with a bit of instruction, I dubbed my music Roots, Rock, Reggae and thereafter started playing gigs, establishing myself on the Los Angeles music scene. I later attended Musicians Institute in Hollywood California, where all elements of my craft - guitar skill, songwriting, vocal and performance chops were honed, taking my artistry to a higher level.

Setback
 generic image1 - signifying 'sadness'.

Within some time while immersing myself on the music scene, I suffered a near career ending injury while working out at the gym. I had seriously bruised the Ulnar nerve in my right arm. I lost control of all fingers of my right hand and moving the arm itself was an ordeal.

It was so difficult during practice sessions to will the arm, wrist, hand and fingers to function properly. Repeatedly my guitar pick will fall to the ground as I had lost muscle strength in my hand, I would pick it right back up and get back to work. It took no less than four years of therapy, persistence and practice, to be restored.

Comeback

Eventually I was restored completely and have since been able to keep at my music with a renewed appreciation, passion and urgency. Yes my friends, I can say with certainty that faith, perseverance and love, in spite of our personal challenges can see us through to a brighter day.
